Sensory-Friendly Hours

From open to 1:30 p.m.

Join us during sensory-friendly hours for families with disabilities and experience Discovery Place Science in a calmer, quieter environment.

This experience is included in Museum Admission!

Please note: During our sensory hours, we strive to create a sensory-friendly environment, but please be aware that the Museum remains open to the public. We recommend parents/caregivers to monitor their child’s comfort level, as some children with sensory sensitivities may still find the experience challenging.

At Discovery Place, we make science and hands-on learning accessible to everyone.

That’s why we are hosting a special Sensory-Friendly Hours at Discovery Place Science!

We’ve crafted these low-sensory hours for families with sensory sensitivities and special needs to enjoy the Museum’s hands-on exhibit spaces in a calmer and quieter environment.

During your visit to the Museum, families can experience a sensory-friendly IMAX show or even check out sensory backpacks with noise-canceling headphones, sensory-friendly toys and manipulatives.

Additionally, throughout the Museum, you’ll find special SciPod stations offering minds-on activities designed to engage multiple senses. The SciPod experiments provide an inclusive way for all guests with sensory sensitivities, to enjoy and learn from our exhibits.

We invite all children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Sensory Processing Disorders and vision or hearing impairments and their caregivers to interact with our experiences.

*Backpacks are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Supplies are limited.

Future Dates*

  • February 2, 2025
  • March 2, 2025
  • April 6, 2025

*Sensory-friendly hours are monthly and continue on the first Sunday of every month.
