Summer Camps for 5th & 6th Graders in Charlotte
As students transition from elementary to middle school, their potential for innovation skyrockets. At Discovery Place Science in Uptown Charlotte, our summer camps for rising 5th and 6th graders (typically ages 10 to 12) are built to feed that growing capability.
We move beyond basic experiments into complex problem-solving and digital creation. Whether your child is a future software engineer or a curious generalist, our 2026 programs offer a sophisticated, collaborative environment where they can build real skills—and have a blast doing it.

Why Discovery Place for Middle Schoolers?
Bridge to the Future
5th and 6th grade is a critical time for STEM identity. Our camps show students that science isn’t just a school subject—it’s a tool for creating video games, building websites, and understanding the universe.
Advanced Technology Access
We provide access to hardware and software that isn’t always available in a standard classroom. From robotics kits to web design tools, campers get hands-on experience with the technology that powers our world.
Independence & Teamwork
Our counselors facilitate rather than dictate. Campers are encouraged to work in teams to solve open-ended challenges, mirroring the collaborative nature of real-world tech companies and research labs.
Frequently Asked Questions (5th & 6th Grade)
Q: My child is new to coding. Is Tech Trailblazers too advanced?
A: No! We structure our challenges to be accessible for beginners while offering “boss level” extensions for experienced coders. Everyone learns at their own pace.
Q: What is the supervision level for this age?
A: While we give 5th and 6th graders more autonomy to explore exhibits and work on projects, they are still under active supervision by our trained educators to ensure safety and focus.
Q: Do they get to explore the museum?
A: Absolutely. We use the entire museum as our laboratory, including special access to exhibitions that relate to our daily topics.
