Join us at Discovery Place Science November 20 and 21 for a weekend-long special event celebrating the past, present and future of space travel and exploration! Experience new and back-by-popular-demand activities and speakers. From combustion (aka, things that go BOOM) and short films, to rockets and astronauts – it’s going to be a space-tacular celebration you do not want to miss. Purchase your tickets today!
3,2,1 Lift Off: The extraordinary feat to get humans off Earth involves Newton’s Laws and combustion, two exciting physical science principles. In this red-hot show, explore the science and engineering that make this happen on every trip out of this world! Where? The Stage. When? Shows at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. each day.
Mars 1001: A 30 minute film about the 1,000-day travel to Mars and the first steps of human civilization on day one. Where? Discovery Theater. When? 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m.
Meghan Woodcock, speaker: Do you have any questions about the upcoming Artemis missions from NASA? Do you want to know what this program is all about? Learn about the goals and plans of the Artemis program with Meghan Woodcock, NASA Langley Public Engagement Team. Where? Explore More Future. When? 11 a.m.
Tom Hohman of Hohman Design! Tom built a large Lego model of the Saturn V rocket and 3D printed the Gantry… then launched it! Check out the rocket, hear his story and his plans for what’s next at Hohman Design. You’ll find him on Level 2 of Discovery Place Science all weekend long!
Keep an eye out for our Apollo astronaut who has been making the rounds at Discovery Place Science. Be sure to get a selfie and tag us, @discoveryplacescience on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
You may not be able to visit the Moon or Mars in life, but in Virtual Reality, you can! Experience space exploration from a first-person point-of-view in VR.
How can you help astronauts travel to the Moon and beyond? Test your engineering skills by working through Artemis-inspired design challenges in the Thinker Space Challenge.
Presented in Charlotte by Honeywell. Apollo: When We Went to the Moon is a touring exhibition co-produced by U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL and Flying Fish. Entrance to the exhibition is free with admission to Discovery Place Science. Tickets must be purchased online in advance.
